I have been associated with the club since 2002, where I brought 2 small boys to the club to introduce them to the game we love. Since then I have experienced their journey from U7s to 1st XV players, a journey that many of you will be on as parents. I have also experienced the club as a mini / junior coach for last 23 seasons and an occasional player.
Over that time I have seen the club grow and develop, driven by the energy of a group of
dedicated volunteers and the vision of the management team and trustees / directors.
Whilst the product that is offered to players and parents is unrecognisable from when I first came to the club ,the values remain the same. A club rooted in the values of the game, committed to providing rugby for all.
The new season is looking to be another exciting one. We have a young, talented senior squad, the majority of whom have come through the age groups at the club. I would recommend coming down to the club on a Saturday to watch their entertaining brand of rugby. In addition we are working hard to ensure that the Development team has regular rugby so the players can push hard for a start in the 1st XV.
Rounding off our Saturday action we have our ever competitive Colts XV, players who will be pushing hard for Senior starts very soon.
Finally, on Sundays, the Women’s team will be starting their first season in NC3, a huge step forward for such a new team.
The Mini and Junior section continues to grow and develop, offering rugby to all comers and a pathway all the way to the seniors. Seeing the numbers training at the club on a Sunday is a thing to behold.
All in all, plenty to get involved with. If you spend your time at the club on a Saturday, why not come down on a Sunday to see what it happening with the M&J’s. Alternatively, if you normally visit the club on a Sunday, give Saturday a try with the senior Men’s teams.
Even better, if you want to do more, there are always plenty of volunteering roles to be filled.
Whilst I’m on the subject, to all the hard working volunteers I offer my the heartfelt thanks and appreciation.
I look forward to meeting and talking to as many you as I can this season.
You will find me watching the seniors on a Saturday and coaching the U14 girls on a Sunday.
If there is something that you need to talk to me about, please flag me down.
All the best,
Rob Wainwright
