Given the privilege to play on a pristine 1st XV pitch, over 4 quarters of 15 minutes, all 28 Casuals squad members played at least 30 minutes of fast paced, expansive rugby.
A quick start saw early points to the boys in black and amber, and set the tone for what was a ruthless display of direct running and deft handling skills.
The challenge for the day was to see how frequently the ball could be moved to width at pace, and it was this approach that brought much of Casuals success. Rushden and Higham were a talented side but found it difficult to live with the pace and power from their opponents. When defending, Casuals worked hard, and conceded points only once in the third quarter.
Of particular note were impactful performances by debutants Joey and Charlie, but every player made valuable contributions to what was an enjoyable morning’s rugby.
The game ended 7-52 in our favour, with our team of the week player being Maxim Hyams.
Our next fixture is on 22nd September against Bugbrooke at Rushmills. I would encourage anyone wanting to see some really exciting rugby to come down and offer some support.
