Fun and fundraising was on the cards at Northampton Casuals’ community day on Sunday as the club celebrated International Women’s Day and raised money for local charity Breast Friends Northamptonshire.
There was plenty to do, with stalls busy throughout, offering a range of hand crafted items, sweet treats and activities such as the hugely popular soak the coach! The face painting stand was buzzing as was the ladies raffle - and indoors, Breast Friends Northamptonshire volunteers provided information and advice on breast cancer and support services. A balloon arch was kindly donated by Details Event Styling and provided a fantastic vibrant backdrop. The Hard Ruck Cafe was non-stop all day and they will kindly donate 10% of their profits to the charity.
The Under 12 Girls played a mini tournament at BBOBs and left everything on the pitch, taking on the host club as well as teams from Bugbrooke and Market Harborough. Serenity showed great bravery in tackling and Taylor was fierce in defence. Marlee scored a great try and both Lily B, SJ and Freya kept the pressure on for Casuals. A fantastic effort from everyone and thank you to BBOB for hosting!
Back at Rushmills House on the field, the Under 14 Girls kicked things off early with an entertaining game against Bugbrooke. The score changed hands multiple times and was only settled in the final quarter when Bugbrooke were able to establish a winning lead. The Casuals pack put in a big performance, active at the ruck and solid at the set piece. The backs looked to play with tempo and attack with hard lines. Some well taken tries, with Amelia and Martha leading the charge but the biggest cheer being reserved for Maisie, who after being denied on the line with two long range efforts finally got over the line with another solo effort. Final score 27:49
The Under 16s Girls were given a guard of honour out to the pitch from the ladies section, and put in a valiant effort against a well-drilled Brackley side with real pace. The girls kept their heads held high and continued to push forward throughout. A great try from Scarlett DD, with huge turnovers from Bella and Ellie helped keep the pressure on. A great display of determination was shown by the whole squad.
Finally the Women took to the field against Loughborough Students in the first Samantha Jones Invitational match - which went down to the wire and was a thriller to watch. The match was kindly sponsored by CLEAN linen and workwear. Read the full match report here.
With plenty of people already asking about next year’s event it’s safe to say Casuals will be planning another in 2027 - a big thank you to everyone who supported our community fun day!
