Northampton Casuals Colts vs Oundle Colts

Final match of 2021

This week saw our Colts taking on the combined team of Oundle and St Neots Colts. Casuals started strong and were camped in Oundle’s half for much of the first 10 minutes. Oundle then gave Casuals their first opportunity to get on the scoreboard with a penalty which was kicked over the posts by Olly Walker. Casuals gathered the ball from the kick-off and quickly put together a good period of pressure on Oundle’s defence with the pack working well together finally getting the ball to Olly Walker who passed quickly to Billy Scoles who ran in for Casuals first try of the afternoon.

Oundle restarted the match after the break and from that Casuals had the ball in Olly Walkers hands within three phases of play who kicked the ball over the advancing Oundle defence, Owen King chasing the ball collected it safely, stepped the opposition full-back and ran in from 35 meters straight between the posts, Casuals second try and first conversion of the match. A penalty soon afterwards meant that Olly Walker kept Casuals scoreboard ticking over. Oundle kicked to clear their lines only for Owen King to collect the ball and launching a determined run past several defenders to score his second try of the afternoon. Oundle then gained possession of the ball and with a sustained effort from their forwards worked the ball up field and ran in a try from 5 meters out which was the last score of the match.
